Who Doesn't like Tuna - Or Salmon

Another of my staples is canned/pouched tuna or salmon.

My stock up price for these are 50 cents per can/pouch or below.  With coupons, I usually get them nearly free, but for the sake of this experiment, I will use 50 cents.

Each can/pouch yields approximately 100 calories.  So the cost per 100 calories is 50 cents.

If I budget 2 cans or 1 pouch per day, I have 14 days worth on hand.  2 cans would be 200 calories at a cost of $1.00 or less per day.

Gotta Include Mayonnaise

I like Hellmann's Mayonnaise.  I know some of you will scold me for not making my own, but I really prefer the taste of Hellmann's to any that I have tried to make myself.

Ok, without getting to technical and complicated, Giant Eagle has Hellmann's Mayonnaise on sale for 2.50 each this week and if you buy $20.00 dollars worth you get $7.00 off.  Under their shopping rules, I need to buy 5 of them to reach $20.00.

Total out of pocket would be as follows:  5 x 2.50 = 12.50 - $7 off = 5.50 - 5 x $1 off coupon = .50 for 5  30 ounce jars of Hellmann's Mayonnaise

I took this picture before I found out I needed a 5th coupon.  I have since downloaded and printed another 2 coupons.

So as you can see [just take my word for it]  The Mayonnaise is for all intense and purposes FREE.

I generally have two tablespoons of Mayonnaise per day in my diet.  They add 180 calories of good fats to my diet and are a very inexpensive source of calories.

Picked Up Some Veggies

I purchased:

three 8 oz packages of button mushrooms for $  .69 each

three cucumbers (20 oz total) for $ .25 each

three LBS yellow onions for $ 1.49

7 Oz of onion per serving would cost $  .22 and would yield 70 Calories

4 Oz of Mushrooms per serving would cost $  .35 and would yield 18 Calories

3 Oz of Cucumber per serving would cost $  .12 and would yield 12 Calories

While these three items do not contribute a great deal to calorie total, they do yield

great flavor, go well with everything -  and the Cucumbers are a great "crunch" food.
